Every Monday Jobspring Boston participates in what we call "Market Knowledge Monday." Each of our recruiters is required to find a current article that deals directly with the technology market, preferrably in relation to Boston specifically, but it doesn't have to be. It's a great way for all of us to stay informed on current trends allowing us to discuss the market with job seekers and clients alike.
Below are some of the top trend articles our office presented today.

Earlier this week we were introduced to a job seeker named Alex, who responded to one of our postings on the Jobspring Philadelphia website. On Tuesday, Alex came in to meet with our recruiter, Miles Thomas, who had the perfect opportunity waiting for him!
Alex is a Drupal Developer who was looking for an opportunity where he could hone his Drupal skills through real world work experience, and Miles was able to set him up with interview with with the President of an integrated design, marketing, branding, and advertising agency the very next day.
Aaron, the President, noticed that Alex was a young talented developer who was ambitious with a bright future, and liked that Alex was highly motivated, so he offered him the job!
Just like that Alex had a new job in only 2 days!
Our recruiter, Miles Thomas, after he gave Alex the amazing news!
It was great to watch Alex find his next great opportunity and we're all very excited for him.

Last night Jobspring Boston had the pleasure of hosting the first Tech in Motion event of 2013.
Despite the negative wind chills we had a solid turn out of Boston techies interested in learning how they can optimize their site.
For those of you who couldn't make it last night, below is a summary of the presentation from Matt Williams himself.
"Web Performance basically comes down to two things - monitor to see how fast things are, then optimize to make it faster. Then simply repeat those steps over and over again. In this session, we learned about some free tools you can use to test and monitor your website for performance and then covered some easy techniques you can use to optimize the site. Now its up to you to keep repeating those steps, while learning about other optimization techniques as they come out. If you do, you will see your site get faster and faster, blowing away your competition."- Matt Williams, Yottaa
For more information on what was discussed check out the presentation slides.
The next Tech in Motion event is February 20th and will focus on DevOps, it promises to be a good one!

Jobspring Los Angeles hosted a mixer to kick off 2013 with our Tech in Motion Meetup group!
The event took place at SOUTH, a popular sports bar in Santa Monica. It was the perfect occasion to get together again with our Tech in Motion members, and to meet newcomers! In addition to members of our Meetup group, some of our job seekers and clients showed up.
We reserved a room for the evening, but our group was so large, it spilled out into the main room of the bar! By the end of the night, the group was dispersed around the venue, chatting, eating and drinking!
Recruiters from our office were on hand to offer career counseling and interviewing tips.
Our guests talked about new apps they're working on, traded business cards and gave each other tech and career advice! Overall, the mixer was a success. It was great seeing old faces and meeting new ones!

We hope to see you there!

Jobspring Boston is built on a foundation of expertise that helps our clients and job seekers alike get what they need out of Boston's current job market. With that in mind we thought we'd take a break in the middle of the week to share some of our market insights about up and coming technologies.
Many job-seekers come into our office wondering what skills hiring managers are looking for and what will make them the most marketable employees in Boston's current job force. After surveying a number of our recruiters we came to a consensus about the top 5 sought after skills and technology knowledge bases.
1) MVC frameworks
2) Web/Mobile Developed as opposed to desktop
3) The ability to explain technical information to non-technical professionals
4) Linux Administration
5) Ruby on Rails
So if you're looking for a job in Boston and possess one or more of these skills your job search has the potential to be quick and painless. However, even if these skills are not a part of your skill-base just yet it doesn't mean you aren't still marketable. While new technologies move into Boston the older technologies and systems may be pushed to the back but they're never forgotten.
If you feel like you could use some help in your job search we're here to lend a hand. Check out some of the great job opportunities we can help you with!
