Software Engineer (Automotive Virtual Reality)

Our client is a global leader in the automotive industry with over $150 billion a year in revenue and 150,000 employees worldwide. Don’t let those numbers fool you. This new R&D office in San Jose is currently less than 30 employees. The plan is to grow the office to 50+ engineers over the next couple of years. So this is very much a startup environment where you can have a huge impact working on brand new cutting edge products set to disrupt the space. However, you get the resources, reach, and perks of working for a large company while maintaining that small close-knit feel.

The goal of this office is to innovate and not just replicate. The company and team love to embrace new ideas and concepts. The team will turn conceptual design into fantastic implementation; then later into key in-house technology and intellectual property. Currently there are 3 primary areas the team is investigating and working on:

1)      Autonomous Driving/ADAS

2)      Electric Vehicles/Battery Management Systems

3)      HMI/Infotainment/Telematics

As a Software Engineer on this team, you will bring new user experiences to life for automotive human-machine interface (HMI). You will focus on the user interface development for new features and concept cars, spanning the full variety of in-car applications as well as virtual reality experiences. These new UIs will be visually stunning, fluid, and implemented in a 3D environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and test user interface software for future automotive and AR/VR platforms
  • Work with designers and product leads to transfer visual design and requirements into technical implementation
  • Support software design, overall system architecture, development of requirements and related documentation
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate 3rd-party software components
  • Actively communicate project status and collaborate with other team members

Required Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong experience with software development using general-purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, C++)
  • Experience with 3D graphics development and toolchain, especially in Unity
  • Portfolio of relevant prior projects
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills

Desired Skills

  • Experience developing for virtual reality platforms
  • Android development experience
  • 3D visual design skills

Benefits & Perks

  • Excellent Benefits
  • Competitive Salaries
  • Bonus Plan
  • PTO/Paid Holidays
